The Hinterlands
The Hinterlands are a wild, forested highland in the north-east of Lordaeron, home of the Wildhammer dwarves and of the Vilebranch and Witherbark trolls. The zone covers levels 40 to 50. The Wildhammers' gryphon city of Aerie Peak serves the Alliance, the Revantusk trolls give the Horde a village on the coast, and the troll temple-city of Jintha'Alor dominates the south-east.
Geography
The Hinterlands lie north of the Arathi Highlands and east of the Alterac Mountains. The land is hilly and green, with deep forest, waterfalls and cliffs over the sea on the east.
- Aerie Peak, in the west, is the Wildhammer town, built on a cliff with a large gryphon aviary.
- Revantusk Village, on the east coast, is a village of trolls allied with the Horde.
- Jintha'Alor, in the south-east, is the stepped temple-city of the Vilebranch trolls, with the Altar of Zul at its summit.
- Shadra'Alor, in the south, is a troll temple to the spider god Shadra.
- The Witherbark villages, Shaol'watha and Zun'watha among them, are scattered across the zone, along with the ruined troll towns of Agol'watha and Hiri'watha.
- Quel'Danil Lodge, in the west, is a high elf hunting lodge.
- Skulk Rock, in the center, is a cave full of oozes.
- Seradane, in the north, is a grove around one of the great trees that lead to the Emerald Dream.

History
The Hinterlands were once part of the Amani troll empire, which fought the high elves and the humans of Arathor thousands of years ago. The troll ruins across the zone date from that time.
The Wildhammer clan settled here after the War of the Three Hammers, when they left Ironforge. They are more tribal than the Bronzebeards and ride gryphons into battle. Their leader, Falstad Wildhammer, rules from Aerie Peak. The Wildhammers fought beside the Alliance in the Second War.
The trolls of the region split into tribes after the Amani empire fell. The Vilebranch hold Jintha'Alor and practice blood magic. The Witherbark raid the Arathi Highlands as well. The Revantusk tribe broke with the others and joined the Horde in patch 1.8, opening the zone's Horde village.

Quests and notable NPCs
The Hinterlands have about 45 quests in our database.
Aerie Peak (Alliance)
- Gryphon Master Talonaxe runs the aviary. His gryphon Sharpbeak has been stolen by the Vilebranch. The chain to save it leads through the Blasted Lands (Thadius Grimshade) and up the Altar of Zul (The Altar of Zul), and ends with Saving Sharpbeak, where players fight to the top of Jintha'Alor, kill Vile Priestess Hexx and free the gryphon.
- Fraggar Thundermantle offers bounties on troll necklaces (Troll Necklace Bounty) and the Skulk Rock oozes (Skulk Rock Clean-up).
Revantusk Village (Horde)
- Primal Torntusk sends players into Jintha'Alor to rescue her mate, Elder Torntusk, in Kidnapped Elder Torntusk!, and to kill Hexx and her guards in Wanted: Vile Priestess Hexx and Her Minions.
- Otho Moji'ko sends messages to the Wildhammers of Aerie Peak in Message to the Wildhammer and its follow-ups.
- The innkeeper Lard and the fishing trainer Katoom the Angler give smaller quests such as Lard Lost His Lunch and Gammerita, Mon!.

Both factions
- Rin'ji, a Witherbark prisoner, is escorted out of Quel'Danil Lodge in Rin'ji is Trapped!.
- Find OOX-09/HL! and Rescue OOX-09/HL! rescue the robot OOX-09/HL for a goblin engineer in Booty Bay.
- Rhapsody Shindigger, a gnome at Shindigger's Camp, offers a cocktail quest, Rhapsody's Kalimdor Kocktail.
- Horde players kill Shadra, the troll spider god, at Shadra'Alor in Summoning Shadra.
World bosses
Seradane is one of four places where the Dragons of Nightmare appear. Added in patch 1.8, these four corrupted green dragons, Ysondre, Lethon, Emeriss and Taerar, served Ysera before the Nightmare took hold of them. One of them spawns at a time at one of the great trees, and killing it takes a full raid.
Dungeons
The Hinterlands have no dungeon. Troll quests that start here, such as Return to Fel'Zerul and The Ancient Egg, lead toward the Sunken Temple in the Swamp of Sorrows.
Getting there
Alliance players fly to Aerie Peak or ride north from Refuge Pointe in the Arathi Highlands. Horde players fly to Revantusk Village, or ride east from Tarren Mill in the Hillsbrad Foothills and north through Arathi. The road into the Hinterlands passes through a tunnel at the zone's south-west corner.
