Tuten'kash

Tuten'kash is a giant undead crypt fiend hidden in the depths of Razorfen Downs. He does not wait in plain sight: a group has to strike a gong in his chamber three times, beating back a swarm of his nerubian servants each time, before he crawls out of his lair. He is a level 40 elite, one of the Scourge's commanders under the lich Amnennar the Coldbringer, and he drops the best plate chest of the dungeon.

Background

Crypt fiends are undead nerubians, the spider people of Northrend whom the Lich King conquered and raised to serve The Scourge. Tuten'kash lost his sight during the War of the Spider, the long war between the nerubians and the Lich King, before he was turned. As an undead commander he serves the Scourge in Kalimdor.

He makes up for his blindness with webs. His lair in the Downs is strung with fine, nearly invisible threads that let him feel every footstep and send his minions to ambush intruders. Strong vibrations confuse and enrage him, and that is how adventurers draw him out: by ringing the great gong in his chamber.

Abilities

  • Virulent Poison: a poison that deals Nature damage every 3 seconds for 15 seconds.
  • Web Spray: roots everyone in a cone in front of him for several seconds.
  • Curse of Tuten'kash: slows the casting and attack speed of everyone near him.

Strategy

The fight takes place in the Caller's Chamber, a room with a gong on its left side.

  • Clear the room first. Then strike the gong to summon the first wave: eight Tomb Fiends. They are weak, and area damage handles them.
  • Strike the gong again for the second wave: four elite Tomb Reavers. Treat them as a normal pull of elites, with crowd control if you have it.
  • The third strike draws Tuten'kash himself out of his cave.
  • The gong can only be rung once the previous wave is dead. If it won't ring, a nerubian is probably stuck in one of the corridors.
  • Tuten'kash sometimes resists a warrior's Taunt, so the tank should build threat early. Cure his poison, and remove his curse if a mage or druid is along.
  • Web Spray roots players in front of him; keep the group to his sides and back.
