Warsong Outriders
The Warsong Outriders are the Horde side of Warsong Gulch, orcs of the Warsong clan who log the forests of Ashenvale and fight the night elves of the Silverwing Sentinels for the right to do it. Their supply camp at Mor'shan, at the northern edge of The Barrens, is where Horde players spend their reputation. In Classic the faction's rewards are a range of rings, cloaks, trinkets, weapons and leggings for characters from level 20 to 60.
Who they are
The Warsong clan was Grom Hellscream's. When the orcs came to Kalimdor, the Warsong were the ones who cut into Ashenvale for timber. Maddened by demon blood, Grom killed the demigod Cenarius there; he later died killing the demon Mannoroth to free his people. The night elves never forgave the Warsong, and the logging camps of Ashenvale have been a battleground ever since.
The Outriders are the clan's front-line force in that war. Their lumber mill stands at the head of Warsong Gulch, a narrow valley in southern Ashenvale, and their scouts and riders fight the Sentinels for every tree. They are part of the Horde, so only Horde players can earn their reputation.
Where to find them
- Mor'shan Base Camp at the north end of the Barrens is the Outriders' camp. Kelm Hargunth sells their rewards there, and Captain Shatterskull takes turn-ins.
- Warsong Lumber Mill is the Horde base inside Warsong Gulch, where each match begins.
- Battlemasters such as Kergul Bloodaxe and Brakgul Deathbringer queue players for the battleground from the Horde cities.

Earning reputation
All Horde players start at Neutral. Warsong Gulch is a ten-against-ten capture-the-flag battle: each side tries to take the other's flag from its base and carry it home three times. Every flag capture gives reputation to everyone on the capturing team, 35 points each in Classic, so a won match is worth more than a lost one but even a loss pays for the flags the team did capture.
Other sources:
- Marks of honor. Each match gives Warsong Gulch Marks of Honor, three for a win and one for a loss. Turning in three to Captain Shatterskull in Marks of Honor gives reputation, a turn-in that was removed in The Burning Crusade.
- Ribbons. A [Warsong Gulch Ribbon of Sacrifice] is a smaller turn-in in Ribbons of Sacrifice.
- Care packages. Kelm Hargunth hands out rations and bandages for use in the gulch through quests such as Outrider Advanced Care Package, each worth a little reputation.
- Holiday weekends. When Warsong Gulch is the battleground of the weekend, every capture is worth more.
Rewards
Most Warsong Gulch rewards come in several versions, one for each ten-level bracket, so that a level 29 player and a level 60 player can both use them. In Classic each also needs a standing with the Outriders. The [[forever:item:21567]] and [[forever:item:21565]] trinkets need Friendly; rings like the [Legionnaire's Band] and [Advisor's Ring], the cloak [Battle Healer's Cloak] and the [Scout's Medallion] need at least Honored; and the [Warsong Battle Tabard] can only be bought at Exalted. Higher standings open the weapons, such as the [Scout's Blade], [Legionnaire's Sword], [Outrider's Bow] and [Advisor's Gnarled Staff], and the level 60 leggings like the [[forever:item:22651]].

The two runes were popular well beyond the gulch: [[forever:item:21567]] gives physical fighters health regeneration, and [[forever:item:21565]] lowers the spell resistances of a caster's targets. The Outriders also sell plate, mail, leather and cloth bracers such as the [Berserker Bracers], and rations and bandages that can only be used inside the gulch.
History and trivia
- Warsong Gulch was the first battleground, opening in patch 1.5 together with Alterac Valley. Many of its item rewards came in patch 1.8.
- Players exalted with the Outriders, the Frostwolf Clan and The Defilers later earned the title "Conqueror".
- The Burning Crusade removed the reputation requirements from the rewards and the reputation from marks of honor.
