Winterspring

Winterspring is a snowbound valley in the far north of Kalimdor, reached through the Timbermaw tunnel from Felwood. Its quests suit characters from about level 53 to 60, which makes it one of the last zones players see before reaching the level cap. The neutral goblin town of Everlook sits at its center, and the zone is known for its frostsabers, its furbolgs, and the blue dragons of Mazthoril.

Geography

Winterspring is a long valley of pine forest and deep snow, colored violet and blue by its unusual light. Everlook stands in the middle, on the main road. To the west of it lies Lake Kel'Theril, with the Ruins of Kel'Theril on its shore and Starfall Village, a small night elf settlement, nearby. The northern part of the zone holds Frostsaber Rock, where the night elves train their winter mounts, and the furbolg settlement of Winterfall Village lies to the east.

The south is rougher ground. The Frostfire Hot Springs, Owl Wing Thicket with its wildkin, Mazthoril, a cave complex where blue dragons nest, and Ice Thistle Hills with its yetis all lie along the road toward Frostwhisper Gorge and Darkwhisper Gorge at the southern end, where demons gather.

History

Ten thousand years ago, the Highborne city of Kel'Theril stood on the lake that now bears its name. Its people stole the Crystal of Zin-Malor from a temple in Azshara, and the crystal's curse ruined them; their ghosts still linger in the ruins. In the present day, the goblins of the Steamwheedle Cartel run Everlook as a neutral trading post, like Gadgetzan and Booty Bay. The Winterfall furbolgs, once a peaceful tribe, have been driven mad by corruption from Felwood, a story told through the quest chains of Donova Snowden.

Quests and notable NPCs

Everlook

Everlook has quests for both factions. Umi Rumplesnicker wants yeti horns in Are We There, Yeti?, part of a chain in which players use them to scare people around the world. Witch Doctor Mau'ari, a troll witch doctor, asks for the E'ko spirit essences of the zone's creatures, as in Frostsaber E'ko, and gives Cache of Mau'ari. Storm Shadowhoof asks players to summon and defeat the great frostsaber Shy-Rotam in Shy-Rotam.

Winterfall furbolgs

Donova Snowden, camped at the Frostfire Hot Springs, gives one of the zone's longest chains. It starts with Threat of the Winterfall, follows an empty flask of Winterfall Firewater in Winterfall Firewater, and ends with High Chief Winterfall. Her quests also grant reputation with Timbermaw Hold.

Starfall Village and Kel'Theril

Alliance players meet Wynd Nightchaser at Starfall Village. The chain in the Ruins of Kel'Theril includes Remorseful Highborne and The Crystal of Zin-Malor, which carries a Highborne relic to Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm in Darnassus. Also for the Alliance, Erelas Ambersky in Rut'theran Village sends players to study the moonkin in Wildkin of Elune.

Frostsaber Rock

Rivern Frostwind of the Wintersaber Trainers gives repeatable quests such as Frostsaber Provisions and Winterfall Intrusion. Reaching Exalted with the trainers lets Alliance players buy the [Reins of the Winterspring Frostsaber], one of the hardest mounts to earn in Classic because of the long, slow reputation grind. The rare frostsaber Rak'shiri also roams the zone.

Mazthoril and the blue dragons

The caves of Mazthoril house members of the blue dragonflight. Haleh, the blue dragon who watches over Mazthoril, appears at the top of the caves. Players reach her by following a scale given to them by an injured whelp in Blackrock Spire, which leads to Wrath of the Blue Flight and a chain aimed at Nefarian and his brood. For Alliance players she also has a part in the Onyxia's Lair attunement: she remakes the broken Dragon's Eye into the [Drakefire Amulet]. Blue drakes and dragonspawn patrol the caves below her.

Getting there

The usual route is through Timbermaw Hold from northern Felwood, which in Classic requires raising reputation with the Timbermaw furbolgs from Hostile to at least Unfriendly so they stop attacking. Everlook has flight masters for both factions, and once players have learned the route they can fly in directly. The Timbermaw tunnel also branches to Moonglade.
