Moonglade

Moonglade is a small, sacred valley in northern Kalimdor, tucked between Felwood and Winterspring. It is the home of the druids of the Cenarion Circle and their village of Nighthaven, and it has no level range of its own: druids come here from level 10 to learn new shapes, while high-level players visit for a handful of quests tied to Silithus, Dire Maul and Ahn'Qiraj. Every druid can teleport to Moonglade, which makes it one of the class's signature places.

Geography

The valley is a green bowl surrounded by high mountains, with Lake Elune'ara in its center. Nighthaven, built in a mix of night elf and tauren styles, sits on the lake's shores and the small islands within it. The Shrine of Remulos stands in the northwest, among ancient trees. On the far side of the lake, in the northern hills, lie the Stormrage Barrow Dens, where Malfurion Stormrage sleeps while his spirit walks the Emerald Dream.

Moonglade is peaceful. There are no hostile creatures, and the Nighthaven guards keep the two factions from fighting in the village.

History

The night elves have honored Moonglade for thousands of years as a place where the moon goddess Elune and the demigod Cenarius are close to the world. After the War of the Ancients, Malfurion and the first druids trained here under Cenarius, and the barrow dens were built for the druids who sleep in the Dream.

The Cenarion Circle, which includes both night elf and tauren druids, makes Nighthaven its headquarters. It is led by Keeper Remulos, son of Cenarius, and in Classic it is one of the few organizations that welcome Alliance and Horde members alike. Fandral Staghelm leads the night elf druids from Darnassus, but Remulos remains the Circle's keeper in Moonglade.

Druids in Moonglade

Moonglade is the druid's home away from home.

Quests and notable NPCs

Rabine Saturna, Keeper Remulos's majordomo in Nighthaven, sends high-level players to Silithus in Wasteland, which became the first link to that zone at launch. His later quests include A Reliquary of Purity, which sends players to Southwind Village for a holy vessel, and Shards of the Felvine, in which they seal a shard of the Felvine from Dire Maul inside it. Umber, the Circle's archivist, studies silithid relics brought back from the desert in Umber, Archivist.

The Nightmare and Eranikus

In patch 1.9, Moonglade became part of the Ahn'Qiraj storyline. Players working on the Scepter of the Shifting Sands gather pieces of corruption from the four Emerald Dream portals in [[forever:quest:8735]]. Back in Nighthaven, the green dragon [[forever:npc:15491]] attacks the village in [[forever:quest:8736]]. Players must keep Remulos alive and must not kill Eranikus; the fight ends when Tyrande Whisperwind arrives to drive back the Nightmare.

The Lunar Festival

The Lunar Festival, a world event added in patch 1.9 and first held in January 2006, honors the ancestors each winter. Its focus is Moonglade, where the night elf druids hold a gathering and players come to see the celebration and collect coins from the Elders across the world. For a few weeks each year, the quiet valley becomes one of the busiest places in Kalimdor.

Getting there

Druids teleport in. Everyone else walks: the Timbermaw Hold tunnel from northern Felwood has a branch that climbs into Moonglade, and in Classic players need at least Unfriendly reputation with the Timbermaw furbolgs to pass.
