Bruegal Ironknuckle

Bruegal Ironknuckle is a rare elite dwarf in The Stockade, a burly inmate who joined the Defias Brotherhood's prison riot. He only appears on some visits, but he is the one enemy in the Stockade with a real loot table: all three of his drops are rare-quality items.

Background

The Stockade is the prison beneath the canals of Stormwind City. Shortly before the start of World of Warcraft, its inmates, many of them Defias members captured in Westfall, overpowered the guards and seized the cell blocks. The warden held on only at the entrance.

Bruegal is one of the rioters. The game says nothing of his crime or how a dwarf came to stand with the Defias. What he does have is plenty to say: he welcomes intruders to the Stockade, calls them fresh meat and the Warden's errand boys, and tells them the prison belongs to the inmates now. His name suggests a brawler, and his loot fits it: a prison-made knife, a set of iron knuckles and a pair of jimmied handcuffs.

Abilities

Bruegal has no notable special ability. He is an elite melee fighter, comparable in strength to Dextren Ward.

Strategy

As a rare spawn, Bruegal is only sometimes found in the Stockade's cell blocks. When he is there, he stands among ordinary inmates.

• Pull the inmates near him first, or pull them together and focus him down.
• Watch for prisoners fleeing at low health. Throughout the Stockade, inmates run for help and bring more enemies back, so kill or stun them before they get far.
• The fight itself is simple; the reward is the loot.

Loot

Bruegal always drops one of three rare items, the only rare-quality drops from any Stockade boss in patch 1.12. The next best is Kam Deepfury's uncommon [Kam's Walking Stick], at 1 percent.

Iron Knuckles can interrupt a spell when they hit, a useful effect for rogues and warriors. Prison Shank is a fast dagger with Agility and Stamina, and Jimmied Handcuffs are mail bracers with Strength and Stamina. All three bind when picked up, so the only way to get them is to find Bruegal and win the roll.

Quests

No quest asks for Bruegal. His Red Wool Bandanas count toward The Color of Blood, for which Nikova Raskol in Stormwind wants ten. The Stockade's other quests target Targorr the Dread, Dextren Ward, Kam Deepfury and Bazil Thredd.

Later history

Bruegal was removed when Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) rebuilt the Stockade. The 1.12 version returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
