Captain Kromcrush

Captain Kromcrush commands King Gordok's elite ogre soldiers in Dire Maul North. Famous for his hair-trigger temper, he guards the way to the king's seat, and on a tribute run he is the henchman players trick rather than fight: a player in a home-made ogre suit tells him that Guard Fengus has been insulting him, and Kromcrush storms off to settle it. Once the group is crowned, he offers the new king a quest for a lost Gordok relic.

Background

Kromcrush is the captain of King Gordok's forces and the strongest of his henchmen. According to the game's Adventure Guide, even other ogres know him for his fury at anyone who insults him or the king. He crushes dissent without mercy, and he has even less patience for anyone repeating the old rumor of his affair with a gnoll.

That rumor is how players get past him. When the disguised player tells him what Fengus has supposedly been saying, he roars "Hey, who Fengus callin' a gnoll lover?!" and leaves to give Guard Fengus "da hammer upside da head."

Abilities

• Frightening Shout: sends nearby players running in fear for 6 seconds.
• Mortal Cleave: hits the tank and a player beside them, halving healing on both.
• Intruder Alert!: at half health he calls two Gordok Reavers to help.
• Bring it on!: at a quarter of his health he uses Retaliation, striking back at everyone who hits him in melee for 8 seconds.

Strategy

Tricking him. The goblin Knot Thimblejack, chained in the wing, will make a [Gordok Ogre Suit] in The Gordok Ogre Suit (and again in The Gordok Ogre Suit) from four [Bolt of Runecloth], eight [Rugged Leather], two [Rune Thread] and the [Ogre Tannin] found in the wing. The suit lasts ten minutes. The player wearing it talks to Kromcrush, who walks off, and the group goes past to the king.

Fighting him. Groups pull him well back from his post so his fear doesn't scatter players into other packs. Mortal Cleave hits hard and cuts healing, so the healer stays ahead of it. When the Reavers arrive, a second tank or a crowd-control spell handles them. At 25%, melee players stop attacking while Retaliation is active.

Loot

The Monstrous Glaive is a polearm. Kromcrush's Chestplate is plate, the Mugger's Belt leather and the Boots of the Full Moon cloth.

Quests

• Unfinished Gordok Business: only offered to a group that has made itself king. Kromcrush says that "da creepy elf," Prince Tortheldrin, stole the [Gauntlet of Gordok Might] from an old Gordok king. The gauntlet is in a chest beside the prince in Dire Maul West. Kromcrush restores its magic and the player chooses [Gordok's Handguards], [Gordok's Gauntlets], [Gordok's Gloves] or [Gordok's Handwraps].
