Guard Fengus

Guard Fengus is the ogre guard who patrols the courtyards of Dire Maul North, the Gordok Commons. His path is the first problem on a tribute run, where the goal is to reach and kill King Gordok while leaving his guards alive. Groups that manage it get his buff, Fengus' Ferocity, which adds 200 attack power for two hours.

Background

Fengus is one of three guards who serve King Gordok, with Guard Mol'dar and Guard Slip'kik. According to the game's Adventure Guide, Cho'Rush the Observer once told him that he was destined to meet a mate while on duty, and ever since, Fengus has spent almost every waking moment walking his rounds through Gordok territory.

His reputation among the other ogres is less romantic. A player in disguise can tell Captain Kromcrush that Fengus has been calling him a "gnoll lover," and the captain storms off to find him, leaving his own post open.

Abilities

Fengus fights like the other two guards:

  • Shield Bash: interrupts spellcasting.
  • Shield Charge: charges a player and knocks them back.
  • Strike: a heavy melee blow.
  • Intruder Alert!: at half health he goes into a frenzy and calls nearby ogres for help.

Strategy

On a tribute run, the trick with Fengus is timing. He walks a long patrol near Fengus's Chest, the chest that holds the [Gordok Courtyard Key], and a group that waits for him to walk away can slip past and clear the trash behind him. If he spots the group, he joins the fight, and he has to be dealt with or the tribute shrinks.

If he must die, the fight is the same as the other guards: clear the ogres nearby so his call for help goes unanswered, and be ready for faster attacks at half health.

In our data Fengus drops only the green items of the guards' table, not the blue ones that Mol'dar and Slip'kik carry. The Gordok Shackle Key frees the goblin Knot Thimblejack in Free Knot!.

The tribute

When King Gordok dies, Mizzle the Crafty crowns the group and spawns the Gordok Tribute chest, with one item for each henchman still standing. Each living guard also offers the new king a buff:
