Dreamscythe

This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.

Dreamscythe is a young green drake in the Sunken Temple, one of four dragons who came with Eranikus to guard the temple and were corrupted along with him. He and his fellow drake Weaver fly over the temple's central pit, breathing acid on anyone below. He is best remembered for what he says when a player falls through the hole in the floor.

Background

After the dragon Aspect Ysera sank the Atal'ai temple into the swamp, she left guardians to make sure the trolls never returned to their work. Eranikus, her consort, led them, and under him served four young drakes eager to prove themselves: Dreamscythe, Weaver, Hazzas and Morphaz. For a time they kept the trolls in check. Then the Emerald Nightmare, a corruption spreading through the dragons' dream realm, took hold of them one by one, and the Atal'ai, led by Jammal'an the Prophet, returned to a temple guarded by confused, maddened dragons.

When players disturb him, Dreamscythe warns them to turn back and not to wake the dreamer, and insists that he must destroy them for their own good.

Abilities

Dreamscythe shares his abilities with the other three drakes, a group the game calls the Wardens of the Dream.

  • Acid Breath: Nature damage to everyone in front of him, plus more every 3 seconds for 15 seconds.
  • Wing Flap: knocks back everyone in front of him.

Strategy

According to Warcraft Wiki, Dreamscythe and Weaver appear in the central chamber once Jammal'an and Ogom are dead.

  • Pull each drake away from the other dragonkin and fight it alone.
  • The tank should turn him so his head faces away from the group. Acid Breath and Wing Flap only hit what is in front of him.
  • Be careful near the hole in the middle of the floor. A Wing Flap can knock players into it, dropping them to the temple's lower level, a long walk from the group. Dreamscythe greets each fall with sports cheers such as "From way downtown!" and "He puts the rock in the hole!"
  • Kill all four drakes before pulling the Shade of Eranikus; any still alive will join that fight.

Loot

The four drakes share one loot table. Each of its eight blue items has about a 5% chance to drop in our data, so most kills give one item or none, and collecting a specific piece can take many runs.

Item Chance
[Drakefang Butcher] 5%
[Smoldering Claw] 5%
[Firebreather] 5%
[Bloodfire Talons] 5%
[Nightfall Drape] 5%
[Dawnspire Cord] 5%
[Drakeclaw Band] 5%
[Drakestone] 5%

The sword [Drakefang Butcher] is two-handed and makes its target bleed. The polearm [Smoldering Claw] and the sword [Firebreather] both cast a fireball on hit.

Quests

No quest asks for Dreamscythe directly. His fellow drake Morphaz is the target of several class quests; see Hazzas.

Trivia

  • Dreamscythe is voiced by Marc Graue.
  • World of Warcraft: The Dragonflight Codex, a lore book framed as Archmage Khadgar's account of the dragons, names him as one of Eranikus's four drakes.

Later history

Patch 2.3.0 lowered his level from 53 to 50. Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) raised it to 55, and he remained in the cut-down temple.
