Earthcaller Halmgar

Earthcaller Halmgar is a rare quilboar shaman in Razorfen Kraul. She does not appear on every run, but when she does she guards a stretch of path beyond Overlord Ramtusk with lightning, a slowing totem and a summoned earth elemental. Her two drops, a Spirit staff and a leather headdress, made her a welcome find for healers.

Background

The quilboar of the Razorfen hold shamans and geomancers in high regard. Their spellcasters draw on the earth and the thorns of the Razorfen, which the quilboar believe grew from the blood of the fallen boar demigod Agamaggan. Halmgar is an earthcaller, a shaman of the Razorfen tribe who serves the crone Charlga Razorflank.

Her title fits her spells. Where the geomancers of the Kraul read stones and crystals, an earthcaller summons the earth itself: she binds the ground under her enemies' feet with a totem and calls up a living rock elemental to fight for her.

The game tells little more about her. Like the other rare in the Kraul, the Blind Hunter, she exists mostly as a chance encounter that rewards groups who explore the whole dungeon.

Abilities

• Lightning Bolt: a single-target Nature bolt.
• Earthbind Totem: drops a totem with 5 health that slows everyone within 10 yards for 45 seconds.
• Summon Earth Rumbler: calls a Stone Rumbler, an elite earth elemental, to fight beside her.

Strategy

When she spawns, Halmgar is found past the first wooden bridge after Overlord Ramtusk. Since she is rare, groups often check the spot on the way to the later bosses.

• Kill the Earthbind Totem as soon as it lands. It has only 5 health, and any hit or a ranged attack will break it.
• Interrupt Lightning Bolt where you can.
• Decide on the Stone Rumbler before the pull. Either one player holds it while the rest burn Halmgar down, or the group kills her first and the rumbler after. Her health is low for an elite, so the first plan is usually faster.
• Clear nearby quilboar first so a fleeing or kited fight doesn't pull more.

Loot

The Wind Spirit Staff carries 15 Spirit and 5 Intellect, a strong staff for a priest or druid in their early 30s. The Whisperwind Headdress is a leather helm with Intellect and Spirit, suited to druids and shamans.

Quests

• Mortality Wanes (Alliance): [Treshala's Pendant], wanted by Treshala Fallowbrook in Darnassus, can drop from almost any quilboar in the Kraul, Halmgar among them.

Later history

Patch 2.3.0 lowered her level from 32 to 27, and Cataclysm raised it to 35. Warlords of Draenor (patch 6.0.2) rebuilt Razorfen Kraul and removed her. She returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
