High Inquisitor Whitemane
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
High Inquisitor Sally Whitemane is the chief inquisitor of the Scarlet Crusade and the last boss of the Scarlet Monastery. A priestess who hates the undead above all things, she rules the Cathedral beside Scarlet Commander Mograine and is famous for undoing a group's work: halfway through the fight she puts everyone to sleep and raises Mograine from the dead. She is a level 42 elite and one of the most recognizable villains of early World of Warcraft.
Background
As a girl, Sally Whitemane watched her family die of the plague of undeath while traveling through northern Lordaeron. When they rose as Scourge, she had to destroy them herself. Guilt and rage hardened into a single purpose: the destruction of the undead, the only thing that still gives her any joy.
She grew up in Southshore with Renault Mograine and James Vishas, who became Interrogator Vishas, and all three ended up leading the Crusade at the monastery. In the Ashbringer comics she serves Renault as an inquisitor and leads the reinforcements that save Hearthglen from a Scourge attack. In the monastery she directs the Crusade from the Cathedral and has the power to bring the fallen back to life.

Abilities
- Holy Smite: a Holy damage spell on one player.
- Mind Control: if the fight drags on, she takes control of a player.
- Power Word: Shield: shields herself against damage.
- Heal: heals herself or Mograine.
- Deep Sleep: at about half health, she puts the entire group to sleep.
- Scarlet Resurrection: while the group sleeps, she raises Mograine. He then uses Lay on Hands to heal her to full.
Like most bosses, she can't be stunned.
Strategy
Whitemane doesn't start the fight. She waits in the room behind the altar of the Crusader's Chapel and joins only when Mograine dies.
- Fight Mograine first, with the chapel fully cleared. When he dies she rushes in, shouting that his death will be paid for.
- Bring her to about half health. Expect the Deep Sleep: there is nothing to do but wait, and she uses the time to resurrect Mograine and get healed.
- When the group wakes, both bosses are at full health. Most groups focus Whitemane, since she heals both of them and keeps the fight going. Interrupt her heals with Kick, Pummel, Shield Bash or Counterspell.
- Healers should be ready for the tank to take damage from both bosses at once after the resurrection.

Quests
- In the Name of the Light (Alliance): Raleigh the Devout in Southshore wants Whitemane dead, along with Houndmaster Loksey, Herod and Mograine.
- Into The Scarlet Monastery (Horde): Varimathras in Undercity sets the same four targets.
- Hearts of Zeal (Horde): Whitemane drops [Heart of Zeal] for Master Apothecary Faranell in Undercity.
Later history
Mists of Pandaria (patch 5.0.4) revealed that Whitemane had survived thanks to her powers of resurrection and now led the Crusade with a new commander, Durand. Lilian Voss and a band of adventurers finally killed her for good. In Legion, the Knights of the Ebon Blade raised her as a death knight, one of their new Four Horsemen, beside Darion Mograine. She is also a playable hero in Heroes of the Storm. The original encounter returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
