Bazzalan

This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.

Bazzalan is a satyr rogue who, with Jergosh the Invoker, leads the Searing Blade cult in Ragefire Chasm beneath Orgrimmar. He waits at the far end of the dungeon on a ledge that is easy to miss, and Thrall wants him dead.

Background

Satyrs are night elves who were twisted into goat-legged demons for serving the Burning Legion, most of them during the War of the Ancients. They still serve the Legion's cause, and in Kalimdor many work with the Burning Blade, the orc cult that wants the Horde back under demonic rule.

Bazzalan is one of the Searing Blade's leaders. His motives are never spelled out in the game, but his presence in the caves under Orgrimmar shows how far the cult has reached. The warlock Neeru Fireblade at the dungeon entrance points adventurers at the felguard Taragaman the Hungerer. Thrall's own spies say the satyr and Jergosh are the ones who matter, and the Warchief sends a trusted agent down to kill them quietly.

Abilities

  • Sinister Strike: a quick extra-damage strike he uses often.
  • Poison: a mild nature poison that ticks every few seconds. Shamans and druids can cure it.

Bazzalan attacks quickly and hits harder than the other Ragefire bosses, but he has no special phases.

Strategy

Bazzalan is the last boss in the chasm. He stands on a ledge above Jergosh's area, reached by dark ramps along the cave walls, and groups that don't know the way often walk past him.

  • Two Searing Blade Cultists stand in front of him. With a careful pull the group can fight Bazzalan alone, or pull the cultists first.
  • He does steady melee damage to the tank, so this is the fight where the healer has the most to do in Ragefire Chasm.
  • Cure the poison when it's on the tank; it adds up over a long fight.

After Bazzalan, the group's way out is back the way it came. The nearest graveyard is outside Orgrimmar, so a wipe means a long run back.

Loot

Bazzalan has no loot table of his own in patch 1.12. Like Oggleflint, he drops coins, cloth and random world drops at low odds, such as uncommon gems and early recipes.

Item Chance
[Shadowgem] 2.2%
[Moss Agate] 0.7%
[Tigerseye] 0.5%

Quests

  • Hidden Enemies: Thrall asks the player to kill Bazzalan and Jergosh, the true leaders of the Searing Blade, without letting Neeru Fireblade know. It is the middle step of the five-part Hidden Enemies chain that starts with Hidden Enemies, and it rewards reputation with Orgrimmar.

Later history

Bazzalan was removed when Mists of Pandaria (patch 5.0.4) rebuilt Ragefire Chasm. Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) had already reclassified him as a demon rather than a humanoid. The 1.12 encounter returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
