Silverwing Sentinels

This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.

The Silverwing Sentinels are the Alliance side of Warsong Gulch, night elf warriors and priestesses who fight to drive the orcs of the Warsong Outriders out of the forests of Ashenvale. Their supply officer waits at Silverwing Grove in the north of Ashenvale, and their fortress, Silverwing Hold, stands at one end of the gulch. In Classic their reputation unlocks the Alliance's Warsong Gulch rewards, from rings and runes for level 20 characters to weapons and leggings for level 60.

Who they are

The Sentinels are the night elves' army, mostly made up of women warriors and priestesses of the moon, who have guarded Kalimdor's forests for thousands of years. Since the end of the Third War, orcs of the Warsong clan have been cutting down Ashenvale to build the Horde's new home, and the night elves have never accepted it. The Silverwing are the Sentinel force charged with retaking the forest around the Warsong logging camps.

At the head of the narrow valley called Warsong Gulch stands Silverwing Hold, a stone fortress facing the orcs' lumber mill. The two sides raid each other's bases for their flags, a war that can never quite be won. Only Alliance players can earn Silverwing reputation.

Earning reputation

Alliance players start at Neutral. Each flag the team captures gives everyone 35 reputation in Classic, three captures win the match, and a losing team still keeps what it captured.

Rewards

Most of the Silverwing rewards come in several versions, one per ten-level bracket, so players can buy them as they level. The [[forever:item:21568]] and [[forever:item:21566]] trinkets need Friendly; rings such as the [Protector's Band] and [Lorekeeper's Ring], the cloak [Caretaker's Cape] and the [Sentinel's Medallion] need at least Honored; and the [Silverwing Battle Tabard] can only be bought at Exalted. Higher standings open the weapons, such as the [Sentinel's Blade], [Protector's Sword], [Outrunner's Bow] and [Lorekeeper's Staff], and the level 60 leggings, such as the [[forever:item:22672]].

The two runes, [[forever:item:21567]] for warriors, paladins, hunters and rogues and [[forever:item:21565]] for spellcasters, were useful far beyond the gulch, and the class bracers such as the [Windtalker's Wristguards] and [Dryad's Wrist Bindings] filled a gap for many level 60 characters. Like the Outriders' goods, these were the same items under different names on the two sides.

History and trivia

  • Warsong Gulch opened in patch 1.5, the first battleground in the game, and its item rewards arrived in patch 1.8.
  • Players exalted with the Silverwing, the Stormpike Guard and the League of Arathor later earned the title "Justicar".
  • The Burning Crusade removed the reputation requirements from the rewards, making them simple honor purchases.
  • In the Cataclysm novel Wolfheart, the Silverwing Sentinels defended Silverwing Outpost against Garrosh Hellscream's Horde and were badly defeated.
